It has been shown in schools in Uganda that via the simple expedient of giving each child a slate and chalk (and training the teachers to teach children having access to slates) the achievements of the schools went up considerably (more than 10% compared with schools using traditional methods in ‘P4 standard tests’. Also attendance went up (the children being more motivated and more involved in the learning process).
Emilie’s Charities paid for 5,000 writing slates to be used in schools in the Kasese district of Western Uganda.
Emilie’s Charities is sponsoring the primary education of eleven young children in a school in Kyemula in Eastern Uganda. We have sponsored the tertiary education of two young ladies, one of whom studied Information Technology and is due to graduate this year and the other who is doing a degree in Education. They are both at Livingstone International University in Mbale. The charity also part funded a new building which will be used by the school and the community.
